An Analysis and Comparison of Expectations and Perceptions on Sustainable Tourism among Italian and German Tourists

2016

The paper investigates the relationship of Italian and German consumers with sustainable tourism through a quantitative online questionnaire. The study’s first aim is to understand the representation of sustainable tourism. It also analyzes if the issue of sustainability denotes an abstract or concrete value to consumers, the extent to which sustainability is considered an important factor in the process of purchasing and consumption of a tourism product, and then becomes a driver for consumers to choose from. The analysis of tourist flows and the literature of the field have shown that in Germany there is extensive experience on the topics of sustainability and sustainable tourism, while l…

William J. Morgan’s ‘conventionalist internalism’ approach. Furthering internalism? A critical hermeneutical response

2014

Several authors, such as William J. Morgan, John S. Russell and R. Scott Kretchmar, have claimed that the limits between the diverse normative theories of sport need to be revisited. Most of these works are philosophically grounded in Anglo-American philosophical approaches. For instance, William J. Morgan’s proposal is mainly based on Richard Rorty’s philosophy. But he also discusses with some European philosophers like Jurgen Habermas. However, Habermas’ central ideas are rejected by Morgan. The purpose of this paper is to analyse Morgan’s rejection of Habermas’ thought and show that a more appropriate normative of sport that explains better our current sporting world can be achieved by d…

Testing and comparing two self-care-related instruments among older Chinese adults

2017

Objectives The study aimed to test and compare the reliability and validity, including sensitivity and specificity of the two self-care-related instruments, the Self-care Ability Scale for the Elderly (SASE), and the Appraisal of Self-care Agency Scale-Revised (ASAS-R), among older adults in the Chinese context. Methods A cross-sectional design was used to conduct this study. The sample consisted of 1152 older adults. Data were collected by a questionnaire including the Chinese version of SASE (SASE-CHI), the Chinese version of ASAS-R (ASAS-R-CHI) and the Exercise of Self-Care Agency scale (ESCA). Homogeneity and stability, content, construct and concurrent validity, and sensitivity and spe…

L’origine dei feudi nei Regni di Napoli e Sicilia nell’opera di Giacinto Dragonetti

2016

The article focuses on Giacinto Dragonetti’s Origins of the Fiefs in the Neapolitan and Sicilian Kingdom. The book was published in 1788 as expression of the governmental policy concerning the good interpretation of the Volentes chapter and the right exerted by the fiscal system on the fiefs without heirs. Through a detailed analysis of the text and the context into which it was written, the article aims to deepen the knowledge of the cultural changes caused by the intertwining among historiography, politics and law into the framework of the discussions relating the feudal matter in the second half of the Eighteenth century. Paying particular attention to the epistemological and methodologi…

Seasonality in Tourism: Do Senior Programs Mitigate It?

2021

Seasonality is a widely recognised and accredited phenomenon known to cause an imbalance in tourism activity throughout the year, prompting tourist destinations, both public and private, to consider how best to plan the use of their resources. One way of mitigating the economic imbalances that seasonality can cause is to find strategies for seasonal adjustment, such as travel programmes aimed at the elderly. This paper analyses the seasonality of tourism activity in some EU countries, and in particular in Spain. Different indicators are used to compare the results and carry out a sensitivity analysis. The study then focuses on tourism programmes for the elderly in Spain to see whether this …

Rapid acting antidepressant (2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK) targets glucocorticoid receptor signaling: a longitudinal cerebrospinal fluid proteome s…

2020

AbstractDelayed onset of antidepressant action is a shortcoming in depression treatment. Ketamine and its metabolite (2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK) have emerged as promising rapidacting antidepressants. However, their mechanism of action remains unknown. In this study, we first described the anxious and depression-prone inbred mouse strain, DBA/2J, as a animal model to assess the antidepressant-like effects of ketamine and HNK in vivo. To decode the molecular mechanisms mediating HNK’s rapid antidepressant effects, a longitudinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteome profiling of its acute and sustained effects was conducted using an unbiased, hypothesis-free mass spectrometry-based proteomi…

Some new Hadamard designs with 79 points admitting automorphisms of order 13 and 19

2001

Abstract We have proved that there exists at least 2091 mutually nonisomorphic symmetric (79,39,19)-designs. In particular, 1896 of them admit an action of the nonabelian group of order 57, and an additional 194 an action of the nonabelian group of order 39.

Conformality and $Q$-harmonicity in sub-Riemannian manifolds

2016

We prove the equivalence of several natural notions of conformal maps between sub-Riemannian manifolds. Our main contribution is in the setting of those manifolds that support a suitable regularity theory for subelliptic $p$-Laplacian operators. For such manifolds we prove a Liouville-type theorem, i.e., 1-quasiconformal maps are smooth. In particular, we prove that contact manifolds support the suitable regularity. The main new technical tools are a sub-Riemannian version of p-harmonic coordinates and a technique of propagation of regularity from horizontal layers.

Effects of the herbicides Benzoylpropethyl and flampropisopropyl on rat liver mitochondria : an alteration in membrane fluidity ?

1984

Abstract The action of the herbicides benzoylpropethyl and flampropisopropyl, and the corresponding unesterified acids was studied in rat liver mitochondria. The herbicides were found to (a) inhibit the mitochondrial electron transfer in complex III or at the level of ubiquinone (I50 of 4 nmol mg protein−1 for flampropisopropyl and 18 for benzoylpropethyl with succinate as a substrate); (b) have an additional (however less sensitive) site of inhibition near succinate dehydrogenase; and (c) interfere with energy transfer. Sensitivity was increased 2- (benzoylpropethyl) and 3.5-fold (flampropisopropyl) as the rats age increased from 12–13 weeks to 23–26 weeks. The free acids were far less eff…
